When leaders fail to fully understand the deliverables of their level of leadership, organizations are over managed but under led. Fulfilling the role and responsibilities of leadership requires “Leveling Up,” or thinking and acting more strategically.
The purpose of executive coaching is to achieve a business outcome. Unfortunately, clients and coaches often confuse the tool (coaching) with the outcome, making measurement of coaching’s impact unclear.
The ripple effects when leaders are not direct with each other move through the entire team, if not the entire organization, eventually contributing to the erosion of business results.
We may all prefer to ignore something and hope it goes away. But in work situations, indirect communication, or altogether avoidance of an issue can have negative, long-term impact on relationships and results.
What I do as a coach sounds relatively simple, but it is not. It has the potential to be so powerful that it could be considered a life-changing experience. Leadership coaching provides new outlooks, new possibilities and new successes to those who are brave enough to engage in it.
To lead like a CEO means to hold the team and individual ELT members accountable for goals and deadlines and to be relentless in making changes in leadership when necessary. This is not easy, but the end result is a high-functioning ELT.
